LITERACY

           Kozhikode district is a socially and educationally forward district in Kerala. According to the census 2001 the percentage of literacy is 91. The percentages of male and female literacy are 93 and 89 respectively. Compared to the state level literacy rate, the district rate is high.

DETAILS OF SCHOOLS IN KOZHIKODE DISTRICT

          There are 734 Lower Primary schools ,337 Upper Primary Schools ,200 High Schools and 13 TTIs in the district. Out of this 337 Schools are run by State Government, 716 Schools are individual aided ,164 Schools are Corporate aided. There are 67 schools in unaided sector out of which 18 are run by individuals and 49 by corporate sector. The Schools include 2 fisheries technical higher secondary high schools are situated at Koyilandy, and Beypore there is residential school at Vatakara. At Silver hills there is Juwanile Home also. In the higher educational sector the district has 1 Medical College, 4 Engineering Colleges, 3 Poly Techniques, 1 Dental college, 1 Homoeopathic Medical College, 4 Industrial Training Institutes, 1 Physical Education college and 1 Oriental textile institute. In the teacher training sector there are 8 Colleges of Teacher Education (CTE) (out of these 3 are University teacher education centres.). In addition to these there are 25 Arts and Science Colleges and 1 Law College under the University of Calicut.
